Do I need to use wax softening drops before I come in?

No. Whilst a lot of people recommend using wax-softening products, we don’t believe this is essential. Certainly using one doesn’t usually do any harm, but we see all different types of wax and are usually able to remove even the most stubborn blockages from ear canals.

We have noticed that the canal walls of people that have used softeners are usually far more irritated and inflamed after we have removed all the wax than those that do not use them, so this is something to consider when you make a decision about whether to use them.

Will I get a Medicare rebate for your service?

At this time we are not Medicare providers, so are unable to offer a rebate.

Can I claim this on my health insurance?

This really depends on your individual policy. At this time, we don’t have any associations with any health insurance providers, so please speak to your provider for information on this.

Do you use micro-suction?

Micro-suction is one of the techniques we use, but whether this technique is going to be the best one for you depends on a number of factors. Your ear hygienist will discuss this in more detail with you during your consultation.

How long will my appointment take/how many visits will I need?

We allow 30 minutes for an appointment, as this allows us enough time to clean your ears, do our paperwork, and prepare for our next client. It doesn’t usually take the full thirty minutes to clean your ears. It is also rare that a client needs to come back for a second visit to have the rest of the wax removed.

Will it hurt?

Some people enjoy ear wax removal treatments. Others find they have extremely sensitive ears and experience discomfort during the procedure. How you will react is difficult for us to predict, but we always take as much care as we can to be as gentle as possible.

How often do I need to come back?

After your first visit, unless you feel your ears are blocked sooner we recommend returning after six months. This way we can take new photos of your ears and you can see for yourself how quickly the wax builds up in your ears.

Ear wax production varies from one person to the next; one person may need their ears cleaned every other months, whilst others once every ten years.

Will hydrogen peroxide work to get my ear wax out?

When hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) reacts with organic matter (like humans), one of the by products that is released is oxygen. This is what causes the crackling or popping sound that is heard when this is applied. The theory is that this release of O2 molecules creates a mechanical action to shift the wax. There is very little evidence to support this theory, which is why we don’t tend to bother with it.

Can I bring my children in for ear wax removal?

Children over the age of 8 years are welcome. Olive oil should be introduced into their ears every day for three days prior to an appointment. Should a child become distressed, treatment will be ceased immediately. If your child is under the age of 8 years, please phone us to discuss before making an appointment.

Can I bring my child in with me for my appointment?

Our room is really only big enough to comfortably fit three people, so please bear this in mind. We do have a waiting area, but if your little one is on the littler side we are happy for you to bring them in to sit while you have your appointment.

Is the price per-ear?

Our fee is per-head, regardless of how many ears are on it. Yes, you read that correctly; therefore if you have half-a-dozen ears and they’re all growing on your head, we will clean as many of them that need it for the same price.
